Grandma Mikuta’s Cabbage Gravy

Grandma Mikuta’s Cabbage Gravy When my husband’s grandmother, Grandma Mikuta, was alive she would make this very interesting gravy from cabbage. She simply called it cabbage gravy. She would serve it over mashed potatoes and I could eat it by the bowlfuls. I used to make it a lot but haven’t in years. I was always told that it was a traditional Polish dish. Well, when my friend Kamila was visiting from Poland last month I asked her about it and how her family made it. She looked at me puzzled and told me that there was no such Polish gravy made from cabbages. It doesn’t surprise me really since Grandma Mikuta was an amazing cook and was constantly providing us with unique and tasty dishes she developed. All the recipe calls for is cabbage chopped, cover with water, boil until creamy, add salt and pepper to taste. If you want it thicker simply add a bit of cornstarch. It’s pretty simple and tasty. I made the Grandma Mikuta’s Cabbage Gravy and served it over vegan redskin mashed potatoes, some mixed veggies, and my new Vegan Lentil Meatballs. This was a big hit! My Vegan Lentil Balls were super tasty and had a great consistency. My hubby couldn’t stop just popping them into his mouth. Wait until you see what else I can do with these Lentil Balls next.
